Poster created for my last Fresh Media collective event before I left Vancouver for England in the fall of 2010. This poster was the introduction to our new salon series entitled REMiXOLOGY which was created to feature media innovation and new ideas spurred by the growing energy around how Vancouverites engage with modern technology, art and media.
As a result, I wanted the series’ design to be eye-catching and hip, yet still somewhat classy (never an easy feat). This salon - the series’ first - was entitled “Toward Cooperative Media Making” and featured acclaimed photographer Kris Krug (TEDxOilSpill and National Geographic).
Discussions were centered on one big question: how can professional and citizen journalists collaborate? To our relief, the premiere was a great success, with a packed house at the W2 Media + Arts Centre and great discussions.

In 2010 and 2011, as a student representative on UCL’s Anthropology Postgrad government for my Masters’ program (MSc Digital Anthropology), I created a series of (mostly tech nerd, inside-joke based) posters for our various events and gatherings.
Since I had free reign to do whatever I wanted, I chose the most obnoxious and garish colour combinations possible, on principle.
These posters were distributed around the UCL campus in London, and the resulting events were well-attended.

As one of 3 head planners of the successful 2009 ForeignPolicyCamp coordinated by Canada’s World and other organizations, was the camp’s graphic designer, and created several forms of print and web-based design, including this official event poster. My intent in the poster’s design was to combine the enthusiasm of the open-source camp movement with more traditional foreign policy-style fonts and colours for an overall eye-catching, engaging tone.

As the staff graphic designer for COPE’s 2008 municipal election in Vancouver, created a variety of large and small-scale print ads which were featured throughout the city. These designs included high resolution bus and skytrain station ads, inner-bus long style ads, and various print posters and flyers — with based on a design strategy featuring a youthful, fresh look centered around Arial-style fontfaces and using the party’s signature green and orange colours.

Designed poster and event-planning for a ‘World Cafe’ themed event coordinated for the BC Poverty Reduction Campaign with the cooperation of Mount Pleasant Neighborhood House and the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives. While it was emphasized that text would need to be extremely easy to read for individuals whose first language was not English, this event also called for a bohemian, European-cafe style, with eye-catching colours for print and web distribution.

Posters created for International Democratic Education Committee’s annual conference. This poster design involved the usage of some very text-heavy descriptions so I used bold colouring to bring out key areas.

About:

This site displays a sampling of my freelance writing, as well as design projects I have done for political parties, non-profits and NGO's in Vancouver and London. As KAiBRAY, i focus on graphic design, social media consulting and community coordination for social change-based organizations.

The goal? It might sound audacious, but I believe open source technologies have the potential to promote positive, enriching civil societies both locally and globally. My work aims to prove this in its own small way.
